Channeling my inner 80's

My job decided to do  an 70's-80's theme party.
I was immediately excited but also immediately conflicted between what decade to do.
Yes there was going to be a costume contest and I figured most people would do hippies, because its a simple costume and 70's is everywhere, along with 90's.
So that narrowed it down to 80's.
My mom's era....
The year I was born..
well the end of the 80's anyways...

Lets see my options.
pop-madonna
rock-pat benatar
old school rap- ll cool j, house party

Old school Rap appealed to me the most, but the boyfriend decided to do slash and wanted me to match.
Groupie? Lead Singer as well. Madonna-ish?
Well, I guess I did a little of both.
I decided to find my own 80's style and determine if I was in the 80's how would I look.
I found my inner 80's at the thrift shop.
First time at the thrift shop too and I am in love.
I"m sad I never found this sooner, amazing things are hidden in there!!
the jewelry alone are fab!!!

Getting off subject.
Going thru the store and there were old school rap tribal jackets, there were cool acid wash pants, but I was looking for more edgy like a red leather jacket.
I did see netting but its a work party and I wanted to be a little covered.
So I focused more on the accessories, I found cool lightening bolt earrings in blue and red.
I bought both because I loved them, I'll rock them on the weekend or just to have for future costumes.
I found a studded thick belt.
I got some electric blue fish tights. lastly I got  a bunch of jelly bracelets in blues and greens.
I figured I was going to do more blue to stand out.
I still had no outfit.
The boyfriend got a wig and some studded bracelets at party city which, we should have gone to after the thrift store, due to the fact they had more for men and the same things for cheaper.
At the thrift store we found more jewelry, a black bandanna, and a top hat.
He was now Slash.
We went home and I pulled all my clothes that were rock-ish.
Leather faux leggings, black pants, leopard leggings, tank dresses, bustiers, leather jackets, and my blazers in black and red.
I looked at this pile.
I pulled a navy tank dress from forever21, and my black leather bustier from forever 21.
I put my belt i got from the thrift shop and my fish net tights.
I needed something to cover me up more, I added my white vest from forever 21.
It pays to have edgier pieces in your closet every now and then.
I added tons of necklaces & bracelets, because I loved that 80's layer look. Some of the beads and bracelets I borrowed from my children..
I added my earrings and then my heels were pointed shiny black shoes.
I wish I had some neon blue heels but I didn't.
Now my hair and makeup ill save for another day.
Basically painted my face like a heavy metal singer and teased the crap out of my hair!!
hairspray was in!!!
Hope you enjoyed and well Halloween is around the corner, stop at your closest thrift shop for ideas they have so much.
All you need is an open mind.
More to come!!!!
